The Green Machine returned as invited exhibitors to the Science Museum of Minnesota for the annual Girls, Science, and Technology event November 12th, hosted by Fox9. This is the second year that the team has showcased a robot at the event, which was geared towards girls of all ages.

The event turned out to also be a great way for Girl Scouts to earn their STEM badges. Throughout the day, Team 1816 spoke with more than 50 girls from a dozen Girl Scout troops who were interested in completing the badge by learning more about robotics.

The Green Machine brought the 2016 robot, Zenith, so that attendees could take turns catching a ball shot by the bigger robot. There was also a LEGO table that held EV3 Mindstorms robots. Attendees were challenged to control the robots using Bluetooth-connected mobile phones and move square game pieces around the board.

The day proved to be a success in involving girls in STEM. It was Green Machine rookie Kennedy O.’s first time at the Girls, Science and Technology event. “It was really cool to see all the young girls who were interested in science and took an interest in The Green Machine’s robot,” she said.
