The game for 2006 year, "Aim High," is a hybrid of basketball and soccer. The game involves two alliances of three robots each, shooting balls into goals on opposite ends of the court. Competitive game play is fast-paced, combining pre-programmed actions and radio remote control in a 1,400 square foot arena. The object of the game is to win (big surprise!). This is done by lobbing balls through an 8-foot high upper goal (scoring 3 points) or by pushing balls through the lower goals in the corner of the court (scoring 1 point). The game begins with a 10-second autonomous period, where the each robot acts independently according to its own programming, without regard to the other robots in their alliance. In the following two periods, which are each 40-seconds long, one alliance goes on offense while the other is on defense; then they switch. The final period is a 40-second free-for-all in which both alliances can score. The alliance with the most points wins!
